Products
Latex gloves are made from natural rubber, providing a more natural feel and fit, while nitrile gloves are made of nitrile butadine synthetic rubber, are hypoallergenic, and generally more puncture-resistant. Nitrile gloves also provide better chemical resistance as compared to superior elasticity and tactile sensitivity of latex gloves. Latex as natural rubber may cause allergic reactions in some people.
Nitrile gloves are BPA-free. Nitrile is a synthetic rubber made from acrylonitrile and butadiene, and it does not contain Bisphenol A (BPA), which is commonly found in certain plastics. If you are concerned about BPA exposure, nitrile gloves are a safe choice.
Latex does not contain BPA (Bisphenol A). Latex is a natural material derived from rubber trees, while BPA is a synthetic chemical found in certain plastics and resins, particularly polycarbonate plastics and epoxy resins. Latex gloves are BPA free.
Most vinyl gloves are generally BPA-free. Vinyl gloves are typically made from polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and plasticizers, rather than bisphenol A (BPA). However, it's important to note that while they don't contain BPA, vinyl gloves may contain other plasticizers like phthalates, which some people also prefer to avoid.
If you're specifically concerned about BPA exposure, it's always best to check on the product page or through our support on vinyl gloves that are explicitly labeled as "BPA-free" to be certain. Most CHA vinyl products are BPA and phthalates free.
Mil thickness refers to the thickness of examination gloves measured in mils, where one mil equals one-thousandth of an inch (0.001 inches or about 0.0254 millimeters). This measurement indicates how thick the glove material is, which directly affects its durability, protection level, and tactile sensitivity.
Examination gloves typically range from 2.0 to 8.0 mil in thickness. It's important to note that thickness varies across different parts of the glove: fingertips are usually the thickest part for enhanced protection and durability during procedures, palm areas tend to have medium thickness, and cuffs are designed with sufficient thickness to prevent tearing when putting on or removing the gloves.
Higher mil numbers (5.0-8.0) indicate thicker gloves that offer more protection and durability but may reduce finger dexterity, while lower mil numbers (2.0-4.0) indicate thinner gloves that provide better tactile sensitivity but may be more prone to tearing.
CHA gloves thickness refers to fingertip area thickness unless stated otherwise.
The mil thickness of examination gloves typically ranges from 2.0 to 8.0 mil, with standard medical examination gloves usually measuring between 3.0-4.0 mil. Thickness directly affects both durability and performance - thicker gloves (5.0+ mil) offer greater puncture resistance and protection during high-risk procedures, while thinner gloves (2.0-4.0 mil) provide enhanced dexterity and tactile sensitivity for delicate tasks. The optimal thickness depends on your specific needs, with heavier-duty applications requiring thicker gloves and precision work benefiting from thinner options.
Yes, absolutely. All our medical gloves are meet or exceed ASTM standards for medical gloves and are FDA certified.
ASTM stands for the American Society for Testing and Materials (now known as ASTM International). It's a globally recognized organization that develops and publishes voluntary consensus technical standards for a wide range of materials, products, systems, and services.
In the context of examination gloves, ASTM standards define specific testing methods and performance requirements that ensure gloves meet quality, safety, and reliability specifications. Key ASTM standards for medical gloves include:
ASTM D6319: Standard for nitrile examination gloves
ASTM D3578: Standard for natural rubber latex examination gloves
ASTM D5250: Standard for polyvinyl chloride (vinyl) examination gloves
ASTM D6978: Standard for resistance of medical gloves to permeation by chemotherapy drugs (specifically for chemotherapy gloves)
These standards help manufacturers, healthcare facilities, and consumers evaluate glove performance for characteristics like tensile strength, puncture resistance, elongation properties, and freedom from holes.
